    WAGALUS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER

    TERM .2 FTE JOB POSTING

     

     

     

    Wagalus Elementary School is seeking a .2 FTE innovative, creative and dynamic TEACHER who wants to make a positive difference for our learners. The position is from April to June 2025 which may be extended. The Teacher will work two days per week in the K5/1 and 2/3/4 classrooms. There is also the opportunity to TTOC and cover for other teachers.

     

    Wagalus School is a vibrant elementary school which serves preschool to Grade 7 with approximately 40 learners. We are in the Fort Rupert Village on the northern coast of beautiful Vancouver Island. The school provides quality and authentic educational programs and services that weaves Kwak’wala and Kwakiutl culture throughout the curriculum. Staff collaborate to meet the individual needs of our students while preparing them to be successful in the 21st Century. We have smaller class sizes and education assistants in every classroom to support our learners to be successful. The front of the school features a traditional big house that is the “heart of the school” which welcomes students, staff and visitors to our learning environment. Kwakiutl Band provides a competitive salary.

     

    EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor of Education Degree (elementary)

    BC Teacher Certification (or in progress to receive)

    In-depth knowledge of the new BC Curriculum

    Innovative, creative, team player and resourceful

    Strong organizational and planning skills to accommodate multi-grades and diverse learning needs

    Experience working with First Nation children

    Knowledge of primary literacy and numeracy programs and best practices

    Clear Criminal Record Check for working with vulnerable populations.

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    Primary teaching experience, preferably in a Band Operated School

    Experience creating and leading outdoor learning opportunities
