    Wagalus Elementary School is seeking applicants for our teacher on-call list. Our school is looking for an individaul with strong acedemic and interpersonal skills who is willing to contribute to our dynamic team.

    PURPOSE: 

    Reporting to the Principal, the purpose of a Teacher on-call is to instruct students in a variety of acedemic subjects in the absence of the assigned classroom Teacher. Wagalus Elementary School teaches students from Kidergarten to Grade Seven. This position is on-call or as needed based on staffing levels. The Teacher on-call will work onsite with minimal local travel required.

    RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    INSTRUCT STUDENTS IN ACEDEMIC SUBJECTS:

    *Implement daily lesson plans as per BC Ministry of Education guidlines.

    *Modify lessons as per the individual student’s needs.

    *Track individual student’s perfomance, behaviours, and any issues.

    *Maintain order and manage students behaviours while providing a lesson.

    *Provide general counselling to student’s.

    *Other related duties as required.

    PROVIDE ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT TO THE PROGRAM:

    *When required, prepare student lessons and assignments to meet regulated curriculum objectives.

    *Track student’s daily attendance

    *Debreif with supervisor, other teachers, and parents if issues arise.

    *Ensure a safe learning enviroment for all students.

    *Ensure Kwakiutl culture, values, and language are integrated in an appropriate manner in classroom activities.

    *Other related duties

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

    *Bachelor of Education Degree required.

    *Valid certificate from Teacher Regulation Branch.

    *2 years teaching experience preferred.

    *Experience working in a First Nations community is essential and a willingness to learn about culture, customs and traditions of the Kwakiutl people.

    *Special consideration will be given to applicants with experience using DIBELS, Readwell, Reading Mastery, Saxon Math, Six Minute Solution and Special Education training.

    *Criminal record check required.

    *First Aid/CPR required.

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: 

    *Knowledge of Kwakiutl culture, customs, and language.

    *Knowledge of different learning styles and appropriate teaching methods to use.

    *Knowledge of appropriate formative and summative assesment methods.

    *Ability to plan, deliver and evaluate lesson plans according to curriculum objectives.

    * Well developed written, oral and interpersonal skills.

    *Strong organizational and time management skills.

    PERSONAL QUALITIES: 

    *Adapdability. Adaptability is a must for teachers, who need to continuously evaluate what’s working for their students and even more importantly, what isn’t working, and adjust accordingly.

    *An ideal candidate must possess qualities being empethetic, patient, and respectful of self and others.

    *Must have a keen desire for life long learning, free of bias, and ability to actively engage students and listen.
