JOB SUMMARY: 

The Kwakiutl First Nation seeks a Senior Administrator (SA) who embodies our values of strength, generosity, and resilience. Reporting to the KBC Chief and Council, the SA is crucial for strategic planning and management of all community programs and services. This role involves leading a dynamic team supporting our community of 900 members both on and off our eight reserves near Port Hardy. The SA is a critical partner in managing governmental relations and ensuring all operations align with our community's values and legal standards.

DUTIES: 

  • Develop operating plans in collaboration with the Chief and Council and execute these plans to align with the community's long-term vision.
  • Manage the delivery of all community programs and services, ensuring they meet the diverse needs of our community and comply with all regulations.
  • Oversee financial management, including budgeting, financial reporting, and audits, to ensure the financial health of our community.
  • Foster relationships with external partners and stakeholders, including government bodies and other First Nations, to promote and advocate for the community's interests.
  • Lead and mentor the Administrative Team, promoting a culture of integrity, professionalism, and respect. 
  • Work collaboratively with the Senior Governance Advisor (SGA) in supporting the strategic vision of the Nation.

KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES: 

  • Extensive experience in strategic planning and administration within a First Nations context.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and deliver results on time and within budget.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of building cohesive teams and promoting professional development.
  • Proficient in handling sensitive, legal, and confidential matters with discretion.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with various stakeholders and government entities. 
  • Understands the importance of demonstrating professional conduct and withholding the traditional values of the Kwakiutl when representing the Kwakiutl Band.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & LICENSES: 

  • A Master's Degree in Business; or a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field and at least seven years of senior management experience, ideally within a First Nations government or similar organizational setting.
  • Knowledge and familiarity working with Indigenous Service Canada and familiarity with all legislation affecting First Nations.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

The Kwakiutl Band Senior Administrator position is a dynamic position within the organization. The SA will be involved in leading projects of varying scope and frequency and will have oversight of the Band Office. As such, this role requires excellent organization and time management expertise. The nature of the role will require attending Council meetings, some local and regional travel, and extended hours of work. The incumbent will have a clear criminal record and hold a valid BC Drivers License and have access to a reliable and insured vehicle.
