    Wage: $22-$30 DOE

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Reporting to the Health Director, the Child and Youth Activities Coordinator (CYA) works closely with the Health Team and others to create, organize, and promote holistic activities and programming for children and youth. The purpose of the position is to plan and implement a diverse range of programs (cultural, recreational, youth development, education, youth trips and awareness raising) for children and youth. Specific focus is also on promoting Kwakiutl language, culture and traditions.

    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:

    *Develops and implements a range of programs and services for children and youth (recreational, educational/awareness raising, youth peer support, youth development,) and the promotion of health and wellness through culture, language and traditional activities.

    *Works closely with the Kwakiutl Health Centre Staff to ensure alignment with Kwakiutl Health Centre health plan and philosophy.

    *Provides referral services for children, youth, and families when necessary to appropriate Health Centre staff, external programs and external health and social services agancies.

    *Researches the health and wellness needs of C&Y and “best practices” for successful programs that improve health and wellness of C&Y.

    *Assists and/or takes the lead in organizing children and youth-focused health and wellness education workshops and creating culturally and age appropriate education materials.

    *Develops respectful and effective partnerships/relationships with KBC departments and external youth programs to support integrated/coordinated service delivery.

    *Performs other duties as required by the Health Director to assist in implementation of the health work plan.

    REQUIRMENTS:

    *High school diploma and/or relevant experience.

    *Training and experience in the field.

    *Knowledge of the Kwakiutl community, culture and language.

    *Must have strong computer skills (knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office, Internet research, and email)

    *Willingness to successfully undergo vulnerable criminal record check.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    It is paramount that all positions within the Health Team strive to communicate and serve the Kwakiutl poeple in a manner that respects, enhances, and promotes the cultural identity and well-being of both the individual and the health care providers. This position will strive for cultural saftey by:

    *Gaining cultural awareness and sensitivity.

    *Understanding and complying with any Kwakiutl policies or position statements on “cultural safety” (and ensuring it is reflected in individual training/professional development plans)

    *Ensuring that plans, policies and activities undertaken promote the holistic health and well-being of the Kwakiutl in a way that incorporates and promotes the cultural aspects of the Kwakiutl poeple and traditions.

    *Assisting in the articulation and establishment of cultural influence expectations in the Kwakiutl Health Centre planning and day-to-day operations.

    *Required to work in a variety of different enviroments (Health Centre, Youth Centre, Community Hall, etc.)

    *Must have demonstrated ability to work well with others.

    *Must have demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information.

    *The main hours of work will be in the evenings and/or weekend and sometimes holidays. May be required to periodically work other hours based upon community needs, and to function independently.

    *Must agree to abide by the Kwakiutl Band Council’s organizational policies (i.e. personnel, confidentiality, conflict of interest, and code of conduct)

    *Must successfully and periodically undergo (i.e, every year or as needed) an appropriate criminal records review and police record check to demonstrate that there are no relevant charges or convictions. KB will reimburse the cost of undergoing the criminal records review and police record check.

    SALARY: 

    $20-$23, based on experience and education.
