Education Department
The Kwakiutl Education Department is committed to assisting all eligible Kwakiutl Band members in achieving their educational goals. The Education Manager is responsible for the overall administration of the Post Secondary Student Support Program, as well as the Band School (Wagalus School) and the Head Start program (Head Start). The Education Department assists students both living on-reserve and those attending educational institutions outside of the North Island. The Department also promotes educational opportunities for Band members through the various activities it sponsors during the year, as well as by recognizing educational achievement through certificates and monetary awards.

Education Programs and Services
Ancillary Services
Ancillary Service funds are received from AANDC based on the number of students living on reserve as of September 30 of each school year. The funds are received to provide students who are residents of the reserve with assistance for books and supplies, field trips, graduation attire, graduation incentives, school fees, and school photos.
Books and Supplies
Parents may apply for school supplies for their child who is registered and attending a band operated, public, private, or private school. Students who are registered and attending elementary school will receive $75.00 for each child who is registered or attending school. For students who are registered and attending high school, students will receive $75.00 per semester.
To receive a school supplies assistance please complete the application form and return to Education Administrator by July 31, 2018.
Field Trips
Students who are participating in school related field trips might apply for financial assistance to help with meals and incidentals. Support will be provided if the budget permits.
Cap and Gown & Graduation Attire
A $300.00 graduation allowance is available to assist grads to purchase graduation attire for the cap and gown and formal walking ceremonies.
Graduation Gift
Graduation gifts are presented to grade seven and grade twelve graduates at the annual year-end celebration.
Graduation Incentives
A $100.00 graduation incentive is presented to graduates at the annual year-end celebration.
Graduation Photos
$150.00 is provided to students to help assist with purchasing graduation photos.
School Photos
The Kwakiutl Band will pay for school photos, please contact the Education Administrator for a payment plan or reimbursement for a specific package.

Financial Assistance
Financial Assistance funds are received from AANDC based on the number of students living on reserve as of September 30 of each school year. The funds are received to provide students who are residents of the reserve with a monthly school Allowance. Students must be in attendance 75% of their class time to qualify for a monthly school allowance.
Grade 8-10: $10/month
Grade 11: $20/month
Grade 12: $30/month
