At Kwakiutl we are deep into the research on Housing and options available for the Nation as we, like all people in BC and Canada, work towards solving the housing crisis - a crisis that disproportionately impacts Indigneous Peoples. So, while we work away on long-term solutions, we have some short-term solutions on Rental Assistance available from the BC and Canadian Governments. Rental Assistance Program (RAP)
-low-income working families are provided with monthly assistance for their rent
-annual household income less than $40,000
-at least one dependent child in the household
BC Rent Bank
-help with rent or utilities due to an unexpected short-term crisis
-support for damage deposits or first month’s rent
-assistance with critical supports
Canada Housing Benefit
-$500 tax-free one-time payment if your income and the amount you pay on rent qualify
SENIORS
Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters (SAFER)
-for low to moderate income Seniors (aged 60 or over)
-monthly assistance with rent payments for seniors renting in the private market
