Job Description:

Reporting to the Manager of Technical Services, this position is responsible for assisting the Technical Services department at Orca Sand & Gravel. This position will work on various projects related to the operation, including: environmental monitoring; production analysis; and, mine planning. The position includes a split between an office environment and field work. The successful candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a desire to learn. They must be capable of standing and walking for long periods of time, as well as lifting up to 50lbs.

Orca Sand & Gravel produces high grade aggregates at a rate of about 1,000 tonnes per hour. The aggregates are loaded onto 70,000 tonne self-unloading vessels for export primarily to California. The operation employs approximately 70 full time employees and has a robust Health and Safety Program, and Environmental Management System.

Desired Qualifications / Experience:

~ Enrolled in a post-secondary engineering program preferably in mining

~ Detail oriented

~ Excellent time management skills

~ Good communication skills – verbal and written

~ Proficient in Microsoft Excel

~ Experience with AutoCAD

~ Previous involvement with the development of technical reports

~ Surveying experience

Orca Sand & Gravel offers competitive compensation to be determined based on the experience level of the candidate.

The position is based on site at the Orca Quarry; the candidate must provide own transportation to and from site on a daily basis. Orca will assist the candidate in finding suitable lodging, most likely in either Port McNeill or Port Hardy.
